Artist Statement: My work is a reflection on the borderlands of light and dark in nature. I am influenced by the rural scenery of my home, Nova Scotia and the clouds that float above it. My paintings explore the transitional area between soft skies to rough grounds. I use bright, vivid colours to explore these ideas.

Although my cloudscapes are vibrant and colourful, they are contrasted with the dark, rugged foreground. This thin line that borders two opposing systems is where I find the most connection to the spaces and people around me.

I am drawn to traditionally feminine colours and use them to portray nature’s ability to be both calming and forceful. A pink sky could be the end of a soft summer's day, or it could be a warning of what is to come. Appreciating both the contradictions in front of me has been helpful in appreciating them in myself.
